📍 Project Overview
This stunning Victorian detached property in Poringland NR14, just outside Norwich, underwent a complete refurbishment ahead of sale. Amber Home Improvements were appointed to deliver a sympathetic yet striking exterior makeover—elevating both kerb appeal and energy performance.
🧱 The Client Brief: Character Without Compromise
The homeowner needed a visual overhaul to prepare the property for market, with two key goals:

📐 Design Solution: Period Windows, Contemporary Entrance
uPVC Vertical Sliders for Period Precision
We replaced 19 sliding sash windows with A-rated uPVC vertical sliders, finished in white woodgrain foil to replicate painted timber. Deep bottom rails and classic horns ensured full compliance with period styling, making them ideal replacement windows in Norwich period homes.
Show-Stopping Front Gable
To modernise the entrance, we added a bespoke aluminium gable frame with a Spitfire front door in anthracite grey. This architectural feature gave the home a bold, contemporary twist—while still referencing its original form. This entrance work was completed under a separate contract and is not included in the window-and-door contract price below.
Flat-Roof Rear Extension
At the rear, we constructed a flat-roof extension with large roof lanterns, flooding the space with daylight. The new brickwork was expertly colour-matched for a seamless look. The extension and roof lanterns were part of the wider building works, completed under a separate contract and not included in the window-and-door contract price.
🌡️ Energy Efficiency Upgrades
The replacement windows combined traditional styling with modern thermal performance. The 19 sliding sash windows use A-rated PVC-U frames with 24mm argon-filled double glazing and a U-value as low as 1.4 W/m²K. The wider refurbishment also included insulation and building works completed under a separate contract.

💷 Window and Door Contract
The window-and-door contract covered:
- 19 sliding sash windows
- 4 flush casement windows
- 1 back door
- 1 aluminium triple-track sliding door
Contract value: £34,722 + VAT (£41,666.40 including VAT). This figure covers the window-and-door contract only. The gable entrance, rear extension, roof lanterns and other building works were completed under a separate contract and are not included in this price.

The finished property was subsequently marketed at £1.8m.
