FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We have answered some of the door-related questions that you might want to ask before investing in one.
Are all composite doors basically the same?

No, that isn’t the case. A standard composite door is generally around 44mm in depth and has a foam filling. Quite a lightweight solution, it also has a GRP colour skin (better known as fibreglass).

On the other hand, a Solid Core composite door is about 48mm in depth and is made using laminated layers of timber, making it more robust and durable than a foam filled composite door. Its UPVC skin enables you to colour match with any door frame.

The two options vary in price, with one costing more than the other. To get the right door, just discuss it with an Amber advisor.

Am I allowed to have a different colour inside and out?

In general, you are fine to have one colour on the inside of the door and another colour on the outside, say for instance if you want a red external finish and white internal finish. We’ll let you be as adventurous as you want to be. An advisor can introduce you to the full colour palette.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

If you have any questions at all, you can always speak to one of our advisors, who will help however they can. Below are some common questions.

How many keys will I be given?

We provide 3 keys as standard with all our doors, but you can ask for more keys when ordering your door, or have extra keys cut at a later date, if you need them.

Can I use the same key for both doors? (Suited)

Yes, that isn’t a problem. Just tell the advisor when you are getting your door ordered and they will take care of sorting out a suited key that you can use for both doors.

What does Secured by Design signify?

Secured by Design is a Police-run initiative that is all about improving the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings to make them safer places to live.

SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification – is the recognised standard for products that are best for deterring and reducing crime. It incorporates domestic windows and doors, and their various components e.g. locks and hinges.

Conservatory Outlet (part of the Conservatory Outlet Group), our sister manufacturing company, is a certified member of Secured by Design, so most of our products satisfy the standard and offer the highest level of security. You can speak about home security with one of our trustworthy advisors.

What is a 3-star rated door barrel?

A 3-star door barrel is the highest rated door cylinder that you can get in the UK and has been rigorously tested to ensure that it provides maximum security. It includes our exclusive snap-secure technology, which has a lockdown mode, designed to stop the barrel being compromised.

Can I completely fold back French doors?

That is possible if you order French doors with an egress hinge. When folded back they will give you a magnificent view of your garden

Should I buy sliding patio doors or bi-folding doors?

That large opening at the rear of your home could accommodate a set of bi-folding doors or sliding patio doors and provide you with a gorgeous garden opening in the summer. A bi-folding door can be fully opened, leaving you with a vast outdoor escape. Our patio doors have amazingly slender frames, so even when they’re closed, the view through them is truly magnificent. One of our advisors can help you decide which of the two door solutions will work best.

This option allows you a 9 month payment holiday from the date of completion. Pay £99 deposit when you order, and as long as you pay the outstanding balance in full before 9 months has elapsed plus a £29 settlement fee, no interest will be charged. If, after 9 months, this is not convenient, you can pay in 120 monthly installments at 19.9% APR Representative. *Deferred for 9 months from the date of completion – £29 settlement fee applies if the loan is repaid in full during the deferral period and NO INTEREST will be paid. If the loan is not settled in full within the deferral period, then interest will have accrued from the start of the agreement on any amount still outstanding at the end of the deferral period.
