Prepare Your Home For Winter With These Maintenance Tips

We have had some respite from the cold weather over the past few days, but forecasters are warning of temperatures tumbling again as we head into December and inch closer to winter.

Home Extension with Bi-Folding Doors

If they’re proved right, and the rest of winter follows a similar pattern, you need to ensure that your home is fully prepared for any frosty onslaught.

It’s a job you need to tackle right now, otherwise, you’ll have no other option but to add a few extra layers to your person and pay through the nose for your heating bills.

You mustn’t let it come to that!

Use Amber’s best winterproofing tips to help your home make a stand against the winter weather…

Invest in energy efficient windows and doors

The large majority of coldness you feel indoors will be due to your windows and doors failing to insulate your living space and keep draughts out.

Fitting energy efficient windows and doors will fix that as they have a very impressive energy rating (up to A+) and will be capable of retaining the warmth of your boiler for a more sustained period.

In summer, they will even make the most of the sun’s heat and transfer it into your residence, allowing you to completely turn off your heating.

Get your boiler serviced by a qualified gas engineer

We tend to take hot water and our heating for granted. It’s only when they’re taken away from us due to a boiler breakdown, that we fully appreciate their importance.

So that you’re not left with a broken down boiler in the middle of winter, arrange a boiler service – an undertaking that should be carried out annually.

The gas engineer will inspect the boiler and identify any potential problems, fixing them in the process, if they can. They’ll also be able to tell you if it’s running as efficiently as it should.

Add a solid roof to your extension

Christmas is a time for getting together with family and enjoying fun times, and you could easily do much of this celebrating in any extension you have. But, the extension needs to be warm enough for the occasion.

If it’s not, you may be able to have a lightweight solid tiled roof added to the structure in place of the existing roof. It will make the space thermally efficient again and remind you of the old times you used to spend in its surrounds.

Solid roofs and quick and easy to fit too!

Thermally efficient windows and doors, and solid roofs, are amongst a wide variety of winterproofing products you can buy from Amber Home Improvements. They’re available at a steal in our Christmas sale.
