Mistakes You Need To Avoid When Extending Your Kitchen

As well as being a leading provider of conservatories, orangeries, windows and doors, Amber Home Improvements also specialises in kitchen extensions.

Extending your kitchen is a smart move as it’s become the fashionable place to socialise and relax at home, not just an area for cooking food and hosting the odd family meal.

But it’s a big commitment, and a big investment, so you don’t want to make any mistakes with it.

You certainly won’t if you have Amber Home Improvements managing the project for you. But it’s still useful to be aware of some of the most common mistakes people make with their kitchen extensions so that you don’t fall into the same traps.

Lack of worktop space

Anyone who’s a keen cook needs enough worktop space to try out recipes and prep meals, with room for mixing bowls, pans, scales, and everything else required to conjure up some tasty dishes.

It makes it far more difficult to do that if you have insufficient worktop space, so account for appropriate sized worktops when planning the extension design – we’d hate for anyone in your house to go hungry!

Don’t go too big with your worktops if the extension is on the small side.

Poor lighting

You also need a kitchen that’s well-lit at night to be able to do your Delia bit.

Get it right, and nights in the kitchen will become a daily occurence. Plus, it could make the kitchen feel much bigger than it actually is.

Get it wrong, and you will have a hard time trying to become a Masterchef.

Illuminate your kitchen sink and hob with task lighting, and use mood or accent lighting for shining a lighting on the dinner table.

Ill-fitting appliances

The must-have appliances and appliance-installation-services in your expanded kitchen will include many of the following: fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher, microwave.

You would be majorly embarrassed if you found that any of your new kitchen appliances don’t fit into the design layout that you have opted for.

This scenario can be avoided by just measuring up the kitchen first and then checking the dimensions of the appliances you’re interested in buying so that they slot in perfectly.
