COMPOSITE FRONT DOOR | SHROPHAM NR17
SAGE-GREEN COMPOSITE DOOR ON A NEWER SHROPHAM HOME
The front door on this Shropham home was already a black composite leaf with a vertical glass strip, under a dark timber porch. It was serviceable, but the owners wanted a softer colour on the leaf and a different glazing layout. Amber fitted a sage-green composite front door in a white frame, with arched top lights, two vertical glazed panels and recessed lower panels, chrome hardware and a clean finish on the porch threshold. The work shown is the front door only. See Amber’s composite and front door range for colours and styles.
Property & Location
A relatively new-build red-brick home in Shropham, NR17, in the Breckland countryside south-west of Attleborough. The house has had a recent dormer and attic expansion; that work was already done when the door went in. Nearby places include Great Ellingham, Snetterton, Great Hockham and Rocklands. The porch is a dark timber gable with a tiled roof. White casement windows either side of the entrance were staying. Shropham is in the NR17 area Amber covers as standard from the Hellesdon Park, Norwich showroom, across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
Client Brief
The black composite door did the job, but it was not the colour or glazing layout the owners wanted on a newer Shropham elevation. They asked for a warmer green on the leaf, more glass in the upper half, and the same white frame and timber porch kept tidy. They asked for:
- Take-out of the existing black composite front door
- A sage-green composite front door with arched top glazing
- A white outer frame to match the existing windows
- Chrome hardware on the new leaf
- The porch and brickwork left tidy at the end of the job

This is a door-only job on a relatively new-build Shropham home. The dormer and attic expansion were already complete. The dark timber porch and the white windows either side stayed. The new leaf is sage green rather than black, with more glass in the upper half and recessed panels below. A named board range is not listed on this page; the door is described as photographed.
Forté composite doors from Amber are PAS 24 as standard, with multi-point locking. A Forté composite door supplied and fitted typically runs from £1,600 to £2,650, depending on size, glazing and colour. Every quote is fixed and follows a free, no-obligation home survey.
Before & After
Before: A black composite front door with a single vertical glazed strip, white frame, chrome handle, under the dark timber porch. After: A sage-green composite leaf in a white frame, arched top lights, two vertical glazed panels, recessed lower panels, chrome hardware. Same porch, same brick, a softer colour on the door.
Outcome
From the path the entrance is a sage-green composite door under the timber porch, not a black leaf with a single glass strip. The colour sits with the red brick; the upper glazing pulls more light into the hall; the lower panels keep the leaf solid. Composite will not swell, shrink or need painting. Every Amber door is fitted by the in-house team, not subcontracted, and is covered by the 20-year guarantee above. Free, no-obligation home surveys are available across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, including Shropham, Great Ellingham, Attleborough and the rest of NR17. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a composite front door?
A composite door has a timber or foam core inside a tough GRP skin, so it has the look of wood without the painting and swelling. Amber Home Improvements supplies and installs Forté composite front and back doors across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, including this Shropham NR17 project.
Why change from a black composite door to sage green?
Colour is a survey choice. On this Shropham house the owners wanted a softer green on the leaf instead of black, with a different glazing layout in the upper half. Sage green sits against the red brick and the dark timber porch without the weight of a full black leaf.
How much does a composite front door cost in Norfolk?
A Forté composite door from Amber typically costs from £1,600 to £2,650 supplied and fitted, depending on size, glazing, colour and whether sidelights are included. Every quote is fixed, written and follows a free no-obligation home survey.
How long does a front door installation take?
Most front doors are fitted in a day once the unit is on site, including take-out of the old door and making good around the frame. Amber’s in-house team works from the Hellesdon Park, Norwich showroom and covers NR17 as standard.
Are composite doors secure?
Forté composite doors from Amber meet PAS 24 and come with multi-point locking, an anti-snap cylinder and reinforced hinges as standard. They are a step up from a basic white uPVC door, and a colour or style change on an existing composite opening is still a full new door and frame as quoted.
Does Amber fit composite doors in Shropham and NR17?
Yes. Amber Home Improvements is a family-run, Norwich-based installer with over 28 years’ experience, FENSA-registered and GGF-accredited. Front and back doors are surveyed, supplied and fitted by the same in-house team across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, including Shropham, Great Ellingham, Attleborough, Snetterton and Great Hockham. Visit the showroom at Unit 52, Hellesdon Park Road, Norwich NR6 5DR, or book a survey on 01603 672638.
Is this the same style as the St Olaves oak composite door?
No. The St Olaves NR31 case study is a light-oak composite leaf in an anthracite frame with frosted sidelights. This Shropham door is a sage-green composite leaf in a white frame, under an existing timber porch, without sidelights.
