AGATE GREY FLUSH CASEMENT WINDOWS AND A BLUE COMPOSITE DOOR | DOWNHAM MARKET
TRIPLE-GLAZED FLUSH CASEMENT WINDOWS AND DOORS FOR A NORFOLK FAMILY HOME
In June 2026 we fitted new windows and doors to this detached chalet-style home in the Downham Market area. Its old white windows were replaced with agate grey flush casement windows throughout, along with matching flush back doors and a new blue composite front door in an agate grey frame. All the windows and rear doors are triple glazed. The soft grey frames suit the red brick and the open fenland views around Nordelph, in rural PE38.

The owners wanted to update the look of the house and make it warmer and more secure, without losing its traditional character. They asked for:
- A softer, more modern colour than plain white, with white frames inside
- Flush casement windows, for a cleaner, timber-style look
- Triple glazing throughout
- Fire-escape windows in the upstairs bedrooms
- Two new rear doors to match the windows
- A new blue composite front door to replace the old cottage-style door, with a frame to match the windows
What We Did
Amber surveyed the house, drew up the specification and fitted everything with our own installation team.
Windows
- Flush casement windows in agate grey outside and white inside, in the dining room, kitchen, both lounges and the bedrooms, including the dormer and the upstairs gable window
- Fire-escape French-style casements in two upstairs bedrooms, with a floating mullion so both sashes open fully
- Triple glazing with argon gas and warm-edge spacer bars
- Fully reinforced frames, shootbolt locking and colour-matched trickle vents
- Sculptured beading on every window
Our own access platforms let us fit the dormer and the high gable window safely, so the owners didn’t need to pay for scaffold hire.
Rear doors
- Two flush residential doors in agate grey and white: one from a ground-floor bedroom, set beside a matching side window, and one to the utility room
- Fully glazed with triple-glazed toughened safety glass
- Black flush hinges, lever handles and high-security anti-snap cylinders
Front door
- Blue composite door in a traditional four-panel design, replacing the old cottage-style door, with two tall glazed top panels with curved heads
- Patterned privacy glass, an agate grey frame to match the windows, and a white finish inside
- A solid foam-filled core for warmth
- Locked with a lever handle and a security cylinder that locks with a key from inside and out, and hung on three heavy-duty hinges
- Weather-sealed low threshold and colour-matched weather bar
As a FENSA-registered installer, we registered the replacement windows and doors with FENSA, so the owners have a FENSA certificate for their records.
The Result
The grey frames give the house a cleaner, more up-to-date look while the flush sashes keep its traditional feel. Indoors, the white frames keep the rooms light, and the triple glazing helps keep heat in during the fenland winter. The new blue front door, with its curved glass panels, now stands out against the grey frames and red brick.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are flush casement windows?
Flush casement windows have opening sashes that sit level with the frame when closed, rather than standing proud of it. That gives a cleaner look, similar to traditional timber windows. See our flush casement windows.
What colour is agate grey?
Agate grey is a soft, light grey with a slight green tint. It suits red brick, rendered and painted homes, and it’s paired here with white frames inside.
Is triple glazing worth it?
Triple glazing adds a third pane of glass, which improves heat retention and cuts outside noise. It suits exposed rural spots like the fens. We fit both double and triple glazing and can talk you through the difference on survey.
What are fire-escape windows?
Fire-escape windows open wide enough for escape in an emergency. They’re required in many upstairs habitable rooms. On this home, the bedroom French casements have a floating mullion so both sashes open fully with no fixed centre bar.
Can my doors match my windows?
Yes. Here the rear doors use the same agate grey flush styling as the windows, and the composite front door has an agate grey frame, so the whole house ties together.
Do you need scaffolding for dormer and gable windows?
Not always. On this home we fitted the dormer and upstairs gable windows from our own access platforms, so the owners didn’t need to hire scaffolding. We check access on survey.
Do you cover the Downham Market area?
Yes. We survey and fit across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, including Downham Market and the surrounding PE38 villages.
