4 Reasons To Enjoy The Summer Sun

Summer has arrived! But with Britain’s track record it may not stay for long. So, now is the time to catch some rays before they run out. We have compiled a list of reasons you should spend some time in the sun while you can.

Strengthens Your Bones

Also known as the “sunshine vitamin”, vitamin D helps your body to absorb calcium. This means that your bones and teeth will get more of the nutrients they need, and in turn, grow stronger.

Boosts Your Mood

What people don’t realise is that by sitting under artificial lights all day, they are depriving themselves of natural light. This can lead to the development of seasonal affective disorder, which is a form of depression. Take some time out of your day to relax in the conservatory – even on a weekday, the days are longer in summer so there is still time after work.

You Will Sleep Easy

If you spend your day in dim light it can confuse your normal circadian rhythm. Based on environmental factors, such as the sun, your body clock tried to decipher when you should be awake and when you should be asleep. By doing something as simple as eating breakfast in your orangery, you allow yourself to adjust so that you feel more awake in the day and get to sleep easier at night.

Reduces the Risk of Getting Ill

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, vitamin D can assist in preventing the incidence of the flu. It supports the immune system, meaning you are less likely to catch a cold. So turn off the TV this summer and relax under the sun.

These are just four in an abundance of reasons for you to soak up the sun. For those of us who have hayfever or just prefer the comfort of the indoors, a conservatory or orangery can allow you to reap the benefits of the summer whilst sitting on the sofa.
